Since her native country declared war on a neighboring state, M. has lived in the city of B., exiled and in a sort of limbo, isolated from her home and her native language, unable to write. However, during a trip abroad for a literary festival, when she ends up stranded in an unfamiliar city with no way of contacting anyone, instead of lost, she feels liberated: finally free of all roots, all she wants is to leave behind not only her former life, but also her very identity, in order to disappear.
