The teaching of History and its contribution to the formation of the citizen, delimited within the scope of Primary Education. The main objective is to discuss the teaching of History in the process of citizen formation of the student, presenting data on the official curricula of the discipline, in the global and multicultural context. It is a bibliographic work that inquires about the themes, contents, sources and didactic guidelines that should support the teaching work in relation to the teaching of History. Through bibliographical research, it is concluded that through a committed, democratic, citizen teaching, the teacher can provide students with provocation, through the proposition and presentation of dilemmas and dramas of human history, historical characters involved in events, exemplifications of the historical experience of humanity. Based on this information, the confrontation between school content and the reality experienced by students promotes the necessary reflection so that the student contextualises his learning in social life, with the capacity to act and modify society in an active and socially committed way.
